Wander, Wonder, Write: The Series

About This Series

For much of my life, I measured my worth by my achievements. I built a career, a reputation, and an identity around being capable, dependable, and successful—until the cracks beneath the surface finally gave way. A traumatic brain injury, coupled with the slow, grinding toll of unhealed wounds, brought the life I had so carefully constructed to a standstill.

The fall wasn’t graceful. It rarely is. And it didn’t just affect me—it shook the foundations of my home, my marriage, and my relationship with my children who needed more from me than I sometimes knew how to give. Healing wasn’t immediate. It was slow, uncertain, and often painful. But somewhere along the way, a different kind of life began to take root: one built not on achievement, but on presence. One that required not constant striving, but patience, humility, and the willingness to start over.

Today, I am a full-time parent to a bright, intense, precocious child whose curiosity and spirit stretch me in ways I could never have imagined. Parenting her has meant re-learning how to live—how to slow down, how to listen, how to wonder again.

Wander, Wonder, Write grew out of that new life. It’s the story of a journey my daughter and I took together—leaving behind the familiar surroundings of our home, crossing the Pacific, and exploring a part of the world she had long dreamed of seeing- east Asia. But more than that, it’s a story of becoming: of learning to see the world through new eyes, to surrender control, and to find joy in the in-between spaces.

These essays aren’t just travelogues. They’re a record of small, ordinary miracles—the kind I have only begun to notice when I become willing to slow down, wander a little, and wonder a lot.

This is my story. And I’m honored to share it with you. I hope it inspires, or at least makes you smile.
