Hi. My name is Eric. I write The Recovering.

This space is for survivors—not just of war, trauma, or addiction, but of life. It’s for anyone who has lived through something that changed them, who carries invisible scars, and who is learning, slowly, to live and love themselves again.

The Recovering is about what happens after the crisis—after the adrenaline fades and survival mode no longer serves us. It’s about the quiet, daily courage it takes to stand on our own two feet, to face the world as we are, and to accept our story without shame. It’s about learning to love our scars, not hide from them.

I write mostly long-form descriptive essays that blend storytelling with introspection. Think of it as a travelogue meets a journal. These essays are grounded in experience—war, injury, grief, identity—and shaped by my quiet hope that sharing my the truth and stories might bring us closer to one another.

I write from a place of vulnerability and honesty, because I have learned that that is the only way I can heal—by moving past my own defenses and being willing to open to the world around me.

If any of this resonates with you, you're in the right place. Welcome.

Why subscribe?

Subscribe if:

• You crave authenticity in a world that rewards performance.

• You’re learning to live with what you cannot fix.

• You’ve outgrown your old life but aren’t sure what’s next.

• You long for connection that is gentle, honest, and real.

This space is not about answers. It’s about presence. About holding space for hard questions, slow healing, and the beauty of becoming.

I publish weekly, typically Monday’s at 10am Eastern Standard Time. I also publish several series, which are longer stories told in parts, like my journey of recovery to receive my PTSD service dog, Spirit or my around-the-world homeschooler’s journey with my 13-year old daughter.

Healing is restless, recovery is raw, and quieting the mind feels impossible—until it doesn’t. I write about what comes after survival: the struggle, the stillness, and the search for something real.

People

I write about recovery, healing, and the awkwardness of becoming—for those who feel too much, think too deeply, and live a little sideways. Tender, tangled, and unfinished stories for the creative, sensitive, complex, or slightly broken.
